Fewer games are televised and there are fewer household names. However, the extremely talented few still become famous and are recognizable even to the casual fans.

One of the most famous players in recent memory is Logan Tom. She played for Stanford University and was a first team All-American for four straight years. This is quite an amazing feat. It becomes even more amazing when you consider that she missed half of one season to train for the Olympics team. She made the Olympic team at the young age of 19. Although she was a wildly successful amateur player she went overseas to pursue her professional career. She is now an international celebrity and has played in Brazil, Italy, and Switzerland.

Another one of the most famous volleyball players is Karch Kiraly. He is possibly the best volleyball player of all time and remains the only player with three Olympic gold medals.

One of the best professional duos in the beach volleyball scene is that of Misty Mae Treanor and Kerri Walsh. In their first year on the pro tour, they had an amazing run of 38 wins in a row. This is a lot of wins by any sports standards. They later put together a mind-boggling total of 89 wins in a row over two seasons. The tour has never seen anything like the combination of Treanor and Walsh.

Many famous volleyball players in the United States play beach volleyball because there is a pro circuit. They can make a very good living playing the game that they love. They can usually start playing in their 20’s and can sometimes play until they’re almost 40.

Recently a professional indoor volleyball league has been started in the United States. This is a large step in the right direction for the sport of volleyball in general. This attests to the growing interest in the sport. The more that the league grows, the bigger fan base it will develop. This in turn will bring more sponsors on board and will inevitably improve the lives of every professional volleyball player. This will then encourage even more young athletes to pursue a professional volleyball career.
